Bright and early Tuesday morning, Hannah headed off to her first day of 4th grade. She is so excited for this new adventure. I think it will be a terrific year!

I put the front of Julia’s hair into little puffs on Saturday morning. They stayed in for several days and she was pretty good about leaving them alone. I loved them and can’t wait to do more with her hair.
This next shot is one in a million. This is the reason that we teasingly nicknamed her “Drool-ia”. Anyone who has spent any time at all with her has been “blessed” by the drool.
Julia has such a delighted expression whenever she is playing with something new. She is such a pleasant, happy baby. Joy is the perfect middle name for her.
I recently switched her to a booster seat to save room in our rather small kitchen. Here are a couple of shots of her trying it out for the first time. They capture her true, joyful delight in another new discovery.
I made a new discovery a few days later, too. I discovered that she was sitting too close to the blinds because I had to clean off the spaghetti sauce that she smeared all over them.
We have been enjoying a beautiful Colorado August. We’ve had many trips to the area parks…in fact yesterday, we went twice!
We are making another big change as both girls will be going to Front Range Christian School this fall. Hannah for 4th grade and Ellie for Pre-Kindergarten. We are very excited for yet another new chapter for the Hale family and believe that this is the best decision for our big girls. School starts next Tuesday so this week we have been trying to fit a few last bits of fun. We to went to the new American Girl store, did some school shopping, and today we are heading to the Children’s Museum with some friends.
Here are some recent photos:
Some people call this a jungle gym, Julia calls it the world’s largest teething toy.
It is hard to see, but that is Ellie climbing the rope about 30 feet up in the air. I love that gymnastics is such a perfect fit for her! She has the physical ability to do it, but also the tenacity to strive to do whatever her coach asks of her.
Cooling off in the shade on a hot day.
Playing in the dirt at Daddy’s softball tourney. They lost the tourney despite their best effort — Ryan has the skinned knees from catching an out to prove it!
Playing on the blanket at the tourney. Yep, she got in the dirt too a little bit later.
Yes, they are playing in a box. Yes, I have 5 children sometimes.
An American Girl – She dressed herself for the occasion. They clean up pretty well from the dirt of the ball field to a classy store – I love it!
Just another pretty and happy shot of Julia. Evan slept the entire time we were shopping. He’s such a boy!
I am wanting to get a shot of Evan once a week to chronicle his growth. I guess I’ve been able to keep up for 3 weeks so far…
Hmmm, Daddy might have a few aspirations about his son’s future in baseball. Actually, it was cool in our room and Daddy just wanted to keep him warm.
Just before leaving the hospital. It was much less scary bringing home the 4th baby than it was the first time around!
Four Days Old
One Week Old
A perfect fit on Grandpa’s arm – One Week Old
Two Weeks Old – Still pretty sleepy most of the time, but here is a rare moment with those blue eyes open!
Three Weeks Old – How do you choose just one expression? His bright blue eyes have earned him a nickname from Mommy, “Little Boy Blue”.
Enjoying the park with Mom while the big sisters hang out on the playground.
Ryan and Evan are having a little snuggle time during his afternoon nap.
Here are some shots from this past week:
We took Hannah to Camp last Sunday and drove out early on Saturday morning to pick up our beaming, messy-haired, skinned-kneed, and muddy shoed little girl. Boy did she have a great week! We were told campfire stories on the way home, talked about the Missionary who was at camp all week, and to Ryan’s great relief, were introduced to “New” camp songs.
Ellie kept herself busy all week playing, pretending, and telling really long and elaborate stories. She had a huge run playing with her Barbies one day.
Of course, in a household with a toddler, she had to move her Barbie’s up to the table when Julia’s naptime was over. Here is Julia enjoying a mid-afternoon snack after a marathon 4+ hour nap. It is obvious by the smile on her face that sleep agrees with her!
And here is our Little Boy Blue in his bouncy seat. So far, the bouncy seat had been a love/hate relationship until all of a sudden on Friday night, he spent a long time awake in it. He also took a long nap in it on Saturday afternoon. I spent a long time on Friday explaining that his “bouncy seat is his friend…” I guess he believed me!
Here are the kids on the stairs this morning. Ellie did her due diligence to keep Julia still for the shot – notice the “seatbelt” hold she has on her!
Life with 4 children is very, very busy, but it is very, very good!
