Hannah hates (and I don’t use that word lightly) to go to Home Depot. We built a house when she was 3 and I think we burned her out on the place. We love to tease her about her passionate response to a trip to Home Depot. We can lay it on pretty heavily, and she can complain heavily as a result.
On Memorial Day, we headed there to get the building materials to build a small swing set (one that we can move in a year or so and add on to, but that will keep them busy this summer). We hadn’t mentioned our intention to put in a swing this summer.
After light teasing as we pulled into the parking lot, I casually said to Hannah to be careful about too much grumbling…
We moseyed around the lumber department for a few minutes when she realized what what we were looking for. She was very surprised and of course pleased.
As we were checking out, I told the girls that they should give Daddy lots of thanks for the new swing set. Ellie replied, “Yeah, I think we should give him a quarter.”
Truth is, Ryan loves to watch the kids play on a swing set. He’s a sucker for it, in fact. Which is a good thing – they are a pain in the neck to build!
